Lemhi Pass, high in the Rocky Mountains on the border between Montana and Idaho, was one of many formidable obstacles confronted and conquered by the Lewis and Clark expedition. For more than two hundred years, that journey has been a cornerstone of America’s national folklore.
President Jefferson’s charge made it sound like a simple assignment. Just establish the trade route that will open up the western half of the continent. And if you meet obstacles along the way, well… deal with them. No problem.
With “courage undaunted,” Lewis and Clark marched into the wilderness and changed history.
