I became a physician to help people. That’s still my passion, but now I focus on helping the healthcare system work better for people in need. Working in an entrepreneurial environment is very close to working in an emergency room. There is a sense of urgency. You try to get as close to the root problem as you can, as quickly as you can. Then you make your best judgment about how to treat the problem, and you do it.
When I listen to entrepreneurs, I am excited by people who are willing to tackle the difficult questions that arise in trying to change an entrenched industry. We attract talented people who understand the problems of the healthcare industry, and who focus on the opportunities for change.
